Biosketch

Katie is a 5th year Ph.D candidate in Dr. Lucy Liaw’s Lab at the Maine Health Institute for Research in Scarborough, ME. Her work focused on understanding the role of perivascular adipose tissue (PVAT) in cardiovascular disease. She studies this using PVAT and subcutaneous adipose tissue from two disease populations. The goal of Katie’s research is to develop new targets for the treatment of cardiovascular disease and obesity.
Outside of cardiovascular disease, Katie has an interest in neurodegenerative diseases and translational research. After school, she would like to move into industry in a more clinical role, such as a medical science liason.

Katie is from Sterling Heights, Michigan. Outside of lab, she likes to do water aerobics and cuddle with her cats, Merry and Pippin.
