GSBS Student and Faculty Awarded DOD Grant
Dr. Carol Bult of The Jackson Laboratory and mentor of GSBS Student Jill Recla (Functional Genomics) has been granted a 2-year award in the amount of $250,000. Work on this project will proceed this fall. The funded project is a follow-up to Jill’s thesis project. The grant is entitled “Systems Genetics of Chronic Pain”. The primary goal of the project is to use a systems genetics approach to identify genes whose allelic variants condition susceptibility to chronic pain after injury.The hypothesis is that studying chronic pain susceptibility phenotypes in a unique, state-of-the-art genetic mapping population of laboratory mice called the Diversity Outbred (DO) stock will allow us to uncover novel pain-related genes.
