Biography
My name is Skyler Morse. I’m from South Portland, Maine, and a recent graduate of the University of Maine’s Biomedical Engineering undergraduate program (May 2025). During my time here, I also minored in Anthropology, Bioinstrumentation, and Mathematics. I was also a part of the 4+1 program to get my MS in Biomedical Engineering, which led me to apply to the GSBSE for a PhD in Biomedical Engineering as an alternative.
In my undergraduate career, I also took part in several research projects as a member of the CompuMAINE laboratory. My most notable project involved the wavelet-based segmentation of glioblastoma using the 2D wavelet transform modulus maxima method, for which I won two research-based awards through the Center for Undergraduate Research here on campus. Glioblastoma is one of the most tragic forms of brain cancer, and it was an honor working on this project in hopes of improving patient prognosis. Outside of the lab, I love to listen to music and work outside on warm and sunny days. I’m incredibly eager to learn, and I can’t wait to get my hands even more dirty in research as a member of the GSBSE!
