Sam grew up in Sandwich, MA, attending undergrad early through the Early College Experience Program where as a senior in high school, she obtained her Associates in Liberal Arts through Cape Cod Community College. She later earned her Bachelor’s in Honors Biology from the University of Massachusetts Boston where she pursued undergraduate research investigating the changes in DNA methylation during limb regeneration in the Mexican Axolotl in the laboratory of Dr. Catherine McCusker. After her bachelors, she was accepted into the inaugural cohort of the ENGAGE-Bio Post-Baccalaureate program at the Marine Biological Laboratory, Woods Hole. Here, she performed research to understand the development and resolve the embryonic origin of Neuroendocrine Merkel cells in the little skate in the laboratory of Dr. Andrew Gillis. After her post-bacc, she sought to further her understanding of developmental biology and regeneration, leading her to the laboratory of Dr. Jessica Lehoczky where she studied the digit tip regeneration in the mouse and early blastema patterning autonomy and cell migration. She aspires to become a scientist who fosters a nurturing and supportive environment for students to learn, grow, and develop into successful investigators, working on the forefront of developmental and regenerative biology. |
