Brief Biography
Professor Weatherford Darling is an interdisciplinary health scientist with training in Medical Sociology, Feminist Science Studies and the Ethical, Legal & Social Implications of Genomics. In addition to her robust community-engaged health equity research program, she regularly collaborates with clinical, genomic and molecular scientists to anticipate and address ethical issues and equity concerns within biomedical innovation. Before coming to Maine, she served as Assistant Director of Research and Academic Programs at the Science & Justice Research Center based at University of California Santa Cruz. Working in lab and classroom contexts, Dr. Darling applies her training in Science Studies methods and pedagogy to develop innovative graduate training experiences and support reflexive socio-technical practices within biomedical science and healthcare. At GSBSE, she has taught courses and workshops in the responsible conduct of research and mentored graduate students on projects related to policy and social issues in biomedicine.
