Janina Mayers
Education
- BA in Exercise Science, St Augustine’s University
- MA in Biomedical Science, Grand Valley State University
Interests
My broad research interests involve understanding the molecular mechanisms which lead to the pathogenesis and progression of chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer and other associated conditions. I am particularly interested in identifying biomarkers for early diagnosis and treatment.
Biography
I am from the beautiful island of Barbados and am currently a graduate student at Grand Valley State University. My current research focuses on investigating the biocompatibility of Molybdenum as a biodegradable material for coronary stent applications. I am excited about the opportunity to pursue a Ph.D. at MHIR, where I can rotate through different labs and gain exposure to diverse research areas and faculty. Ultimately, I aspire to contribute to advancing knowledge that leads to the development of new molecular markers and therapeutic approaches for chronic illnesses, while also mentoring the next generation of scientists as an academic researcher. Outside the lab, I enjoy sports, traveling, and solving puzzles.
