Brief Biography

Given my interest in translational approaches, I decided to pursue a graduate degree to not only advance my knowledge in the field of biomedical sciences, but also to be better equipped to help merge the gap between the general public, practicing clinicians, and the scientific community. For this reason, I joined the GSBSE program, the MaineHealth Institute for Research and the laboratory of Dr. Matthew Lynes. I chose this lab to complete my dissertation because of its focus on metabolic development and function to identify novel therapeutic approaches to treat obesity and cardiovascular disease. I became particularly fond of a project exploring the role of brown adipose tissue in cardiac arrest patients, which was developed in collaboration with practicing clinicians at MaineHealth.
