Many of the University of Maine Graduate Programs require applicants to submit official reports from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), or the Miller Analogies Test (MAT). Please check with the program you are applying to for specific test requirements. Most of the tests are available on an individual appointment basis throughout the year at regional test centers. Please visit each test’s web site for general information, to register for the test, or to request that your official test scores be sent to the University of Maine Graduate School.
An official GRE report of scores is required for admission in most graduate programs at UMaine. Please check with your intended graduate program for test score requirements.
The GRE revised General Test is available at more the 1,000 test centers in more than 160 countries. It is offered as a computer-delivered test year-round at most locations and as a paper-delivered test up to three times a year in areas where computer–delivered testing is not available. The Educational Testing Service (ETS) offers free test preparation materials for the GRE on their website. There are many test locations in the United States, including four in Maine. You are encouraged to check with your desired testing location as soon as possible to select your test date.

English Proficiency Test Scores Required for International Applicants
Official English proficiency examination scores are required from international applicants, unless the applicant has received a degree from an English-speaking institution. The University of Maine Graduate School accepts the following score reports sent directly from the testing agency:
The TOEFL Test, which is administered online, is offered more than 50 times a year at ETS-authorized test centers throughout the world, including several locations in Maine. The paper based test is currently only offered in areas where online testing is not available. Please contact the Educational Testing Service (ETS) to register to take the TOEFL.

The IELTS is administered in over 1,100 locations across the world, including the USA, with tests up to four times a month. Please consult their webpage for test center locations, specific information on registering for the test and instructions on requesting test results.
